Dr. Sonia Cann-Milland's counselling experience comes from a multi-disciplinary background. She has worked in a range of social welfare services, educational organisations, and presently works in private practice as a counsellor and a specialist in stepfamily counselling and education in Australia.

For the last thirty years, Dr. Cann-Milland’s clientele include working with children, teenagers, adults, couples and families. She has extensive experience in working with a diverse range of families, including, first time families, single parents, post-divorce parents, and stepfamily parents.

She has written and published journals addressing self-Identity crisis from the perspective of a stepmother, issues for recoupled parents in stepfamilies with children on the Autism Spectrum, and the impact on children’s sustained health and overall wellbeing within the stepfamily.

As a stepmother to three and a mother to two, she has parented and co-parented through all the development stages of the children’s lives. Dr. Cann-Milland has learned and now teaches about empathy in communication as to help create healthy and fulfilling families.
